Weekend Links / / The Family Cold Season

I’m posting this Weekend Links edition a little late, but that’s apropos for my week. Everyone is or has been sick all week. Phoenix’s runny nose and cough started last weekend. His colds are susceptible to turning into croup so I was keeping a close eye. I bought a new humidifier. I couldn’t keep our last one from growing mold. Why design a humidifier with nooks and crannies you can’t keep clean?!

Phoenix’s cold went through various degrees of severity. He had a slight fever Friday night, but sadly Jordan was hit the worst. I joke working at Starbucks boosts my immune system, but I actually do believe it. I felt a little achy for roughly twenty-four hours and that’s pretty typical for me. Phoenix hasn’t slept the greatest this week, but he has been extra cuddly. To try to keep him from running around (and thus coughing more) I put on movies and to my surprise he’d sit on my lap and watch bits and pieces.

We had to cancel our baby-sitter for Saturday night but we did manage to buy our Christmas tree (not decorated yet) and visit Porter Flea’s Holiday Pop-Up Market. The market’s occur seasonally and are full of local talented artists.

Weekend Links / / Project You and Me

Mixing it up for this week’s Weekend Links addition by participating in Ginger Parrish’s You and Me Project.

You: are 16 months old ▪️never stop moving ▪️silly and curious, but often get overwhelmed in new environments ▪️ never far from me (preferably with your hand down my shirt 🙃)▪️constantly asking “what is that?” to anyone that’ll answer ▪️have a hard time with transitions ▪️ love going to school (but equally love reuniting).

Me: Need to up my workout game aka start moving! ▪️wonder if I contribute enough to my family and community ▪️listen to podcasts all day long ▪️obsessed with mybyta cup (it keeps my iced lattes icy for hours!) ▪️in a love affair with TJ’s cookie butter sandwich cookies (often with hot chocolate at night)▪️still breastfeeding, but stopped pumping at work! 🙌🏻 #projectyouandme

Weekend Links / / Hey, Natalie’s Back

I’m dragging a bit this morning. Not only was wine night last night (I haven’t been able to go in months!), Jordan and I attended a HALFNOISE concert. Whew. Thankfully, I’m off work today. 🙂 Overall, this week felt like a reprieve from the busyness of the last couple of months. I was able to get my hair cut and colored and read several nights before bed. It’s the little wins, right?

Speaking of small wins.  I’d love to hear from you, moms of toddlers, (especially within the 15-20 month range) about what daily cleaning and organizing tasks you accomplish while they are awake. Though I know this often is the time when people might be adding in another baby, which obviously means nothing is getting done. 😉

Phoenix is into everything (we circle around making messes and cleaning said messes). He is so busy, but also clingy. As I’m  writing this out, I’m recognizing he must be going through a developmental leap as in the last week or so he started climbing on everything. Which rarely works out for either of us. HAHA.

Phoenix and I leave for Chicago on Monday, so as soon as I’m off work tomorrow it’s prep time! I hope you all have the best Thanksgiving. 😉

Weekend Links / / Phoenix’s First Fall

Hey Friends. Friday is here! Phoenix had his first big fall on Monday. He tripped over his own feet. His nose started bleeding and it now looks like he has a rug burn on his face. Poor baby. Between daylight savings, Phoenix’s fall, and generally not adjust well to one nap a day I am ready for a weekend reset.

I finished my last week of working four days a week. Honestly, it was too much but as I tell myself during the grind, working decisions aren’t permanent.

What are your weekend plans? I see everyone already decorating their Christmas tree and I want to join in the fun! But, we’re saving that for December. I requested a whole weekend off to make a fun outing of it.

Weekend Links / / Daniel Tiger Goes Trick-or-Treating

I couldn’t resist sharing several photos from Halloween. Phoenix went trick-or-treating as Daniel Tiger. The red hoodie Phoenix is wearing was actually my brothers! The red shoes are Cat & Jack from Target. Phoenix quickly got the hang of walking up the steps and going straight to the candy basket. I didn’t exactly know how the night would go, but minus the car ride home Phoenix had no meltdowns! And he stayed up two hours past his bedtime.

I’m continually amazed with this kid.

Jordan and I both had work this weekend, but we still found a little time to catch up on Stranger Things 2. Are you watching it? We still have three episodes left. I realized a rewatch of season one would have been helpful — I forgot a lot of little details.

Onto the links, but first a few photos.

Weekend Links / / Fall Colors and Sad Car Faces

Weekend Links / / Fall Colors and Sad Car Faces

We spent last weekend in Illinois for Jordan’s grandfather’s funeral. While the reasoning behind our last-minute trip wasn’t a joyous occasion, seeing Jordan’s family was really nice. Phoenix loved being around his grandparents, aunts, and uncle.

The last time we saw his family Phoenix was going through a clingy phase, but this time he barely needed me. 😉 I appreciated your encouraging messages after I shared Phoenix’s sad car-face on Instagram. Long car rides are still hard for Phoenix (day or night)!

We’re flying home for Thanksgiving this year.

Before we left Phoenix and I modeled in a quick photoshoot for Poly + Bark and I couldn’t help but share a few. We recently purchased dining room chairs from Poly + Bark and find them really comfortable. Their fall furniture sale is running right now!

Weekend Links / / We Came, We Saw, We Conquered!

Weekend Links / / We Came, We Saw, We Conquered!

Veni, vidi, vici.

Jordan and I traipsed all over New York City with our 14 month old and lived to tell the tale! Seriously. In the coming weeks I’ll share more about our trip, especially what I learned about traveling with a toddler. Lessons such as: unless you go on large family vacations with reinforcement, vacationing with a toddler in toe isn’t relaxing. But, remember, everyday with a toddler is exhausting so why not go somewhere fun!

Would I label NYC family friendly? Probably not, but everyone was so helpful. Offering up their seats on the subway or lending a hand when we had suitcases and a stroller. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and my prediction that Phoenix would love the airplane was correct!

Do you have a specific question you want me to answer about our time in New York City?

Weekend Links / / We Came, We Saw, We Conquered!

Jordan and I are glad to be home though I do miss the little cafe below our AirBnB in Harlem — we practically became locals. Once Phoenix was asleep Jordan would go downstairs and order dinner for us. Our days started there with croissants and lattes!

Weekend Links / / New York City Bound

Phoenix had a blast at his birthday party. I’ve never seen him so confident. People he barely knew held him and it didn’t phase him. I mentioned last week I was baking his cake and it was delicious. Granted, a cake full of sugar and fat should, hopefully, taste good. 😉 I highly recommend Smitten Kitchen’s cake recipe and Kate’s frosting.

Phoenix and I both came down with a cold this week. My voice is still recovering. Phoenix bounced back after a day, so thankfully he was able to go to school. I sounded worse than I felt. Despite not being 100 % this week I managed to select my clothes for New York City next week! My friend inspired me to use packing cubes. Do you pack with packing cubes? Apparently, they make all of the difference.

Oh, my sweet friends at True Co. interviewed me for their Femme Friday feature. We chatted about balance, nutrition, style, motherhood and a few Nashville recommendations.

Weekend Links / / Welcome to Fall!

Weekend Links / / Fall Welcome

Hi Friends! Phoenix’s birthday cake is currently baking in the oven and I’m praying it turns out alright. I enjoy baking (and eating baked goods), but I don’t pay attention to details enough to bake many things that involve layers and icing. I followed Smitten Kitchen’s recipe. Deb never disappoints. The icing is Kate’s recipe. Keeping it simple. I’ll share photos next week!

We are excited to celebrate Phoenix with our friends, but come Sunday evening I am ready to buckle down and prep for our NYC vacation. There are still a lot of details to solidify, but I’m confident I can get a good grip on everything before next weekend. My ultimate goal is to finish the logistical details so next Sunday I can pack!

Weekend Links / / It’s Been a Minute

Oh, hey there! I unintentionally took time off from the blogging. Between Hurricane Harvey and Irma and DACA and Charlottesville I felt burnt out. Then Phoenix got croup and, simultaneously, (on my BIRTHDAY!!) I had food poisoning. I went to a new hip juice bar/sandwich/salad restaurant in town (while waiting for Phoenix’s steroid prescription) and yeah, won’t be going back! I’m now hesitant to order salads at restaurants anymore.

My energy was limited to the absolute essentials (i.e. my jobs, Phoenix, Jordan) and thus my break set-in. We were supposed to have a party last weekend, but we rescheduled — Croup is highly contagious. We continued to accomplish a lot at home, including buying dining room chairs!! If you caught my Instastories this week I solicited everyone’s opinion about a navy blue accent wall.

To wind down, I read almost every night. I just finished My Glory Was I Had Such Friends. It is a beautiful memoir about Amy Silverstein who, at 24, received a heart transplant. This book picks up 25 years later when her donor heart begins to decline and she goes back on the transplant wait list. What are you reading?
