Sun Care Tips with Olay

Sun Care Tips with Olay

I’m excited to be partnering with Olay again to talk about suncare. I don’t always want to think about the potential problems I might face in the future by not practicing good sun safety practices, but with a few simple tweaks we can literally save our future skin!

My mom was strict about suncare, which, growing up in the 90s, felt countercultural. Tanning beds were still the norm! I hated the ritual of putting sunscreen on and I often avoided it by not going outside much as a kid. Which is certainly one way to avoid overexposure. My mom didn’t shoo my brothers and I out of the house in the summer. We still played outside (especially between sports and our two-week summer camp), but there was an understanding we must avoid getting burnt.

Moisturize Differently with Olay Whips

Moisturize Differently with Olay Whips

I actually enjoy many parts of winter. It’s a reminder to slow down and allow for certain habits or rituals to figuratively and literally die. And just at the moment when I’m totally over the cold weather (like now!) spring time arrives! I often wonder what it’d be like to live in a part of the country that doesn’t experience extreme weather changes. Do they, do you, follow a similar path of spring cleaning and hibernation?

While Nashville winters aren’t as extreme as Chicago winters, from my childhood, I still experience effects from the lack of humidity and use of central heat. Both of which aren’t kind to my skin.

I’m in my thirties, so I’ve been spending time gaining more knowledge about skin care. I recently found out central heating reduces air humidity to the same moisture content as the Sahara Desert. That’s 20-25% humidity! No wonder wintertime causes so many skin problems.

Olay recently added Olay Whips to their collection. Why do many consider Olay Whips to be the unicorn of moisturizers? Let me tell you!

I Took the Olay 28 Day Challenge and Here Are My Results

I Took the Olay 28 Day Challenge and Here Are My Results

This post was sponsored by Olay. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks for reading and supporting the brands that support A Short Blonde!

I’ve discussed my acne struggles many times over the years. Throughout my pregnancy with Phoenix and up to almost a year postpartum my skin was amazing! I rarely broke out and a lot of prior acne scarring lightened, but this fall my skin took a turn for the worst. And it left me feeling depleted.

Because my period had recently returned, I assumed the culprit was hormonal acne. I kept changing my skincare routine — adding more and more products — hoping something would change. Out of frustration I made an appointment with a dermatologist. Within three minutes of meeting her she told me I didn’t have acne, I had perioral dermatitis. A cross between rosacea and eczema. When on the face it appears similar to cystic acne with the added bonus of dry flaky patches.

Perioral dermatitis craves a simple skincare routine. It doesn’t want harsh acne treatments, serums or excessive creams. It wants to be left alone. Which, of course, was the exact opposite of my skincare routine! During this time Olay reached out to me to participate in their #Olay28Day Challenge. Their easy-to-follow challenge came at just the right time. I am almost at the end of the challenge, so I wanted to give you all the details.

Step 1: Apply the Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream morning and night to cleansed skin
Step 2: Use the Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream in the morning and evening on cleansed skin

The Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream has been proven to give you younger-looking skin in 28 days. It reduces the appearance of fine lines, immediately plumps the skin and hydrates better than high cost creams! One of the key ingredients, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), boosts cell turnover and maintains skin’s moisture barrier which is important for achieving younger-looking skin.

The Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream is my new favorite skincare product. It reduces puffiness and the appearance of fine lines and dark circles. The slight tint acts as a color corrector, so I was able to get away with using less concealer. I’ve used other (much more expensive) eye creams that don’t sink well into my skin and end up clumping my concealer. Has that ever happened to you?

Olay 28 Day Challenge Results

Before the start of the Olay 28 Day Challenge my skin was dull and dry and the bags under my eyes were intense. I honestly didn’t even notice how bad the bags under my eyes had gotten until looking at these photos! The best part? I didn’t use a ton of products to achieve these results! My daily routine went from six to seven products to two!

Cheers to healthy and youthful looking skin!

Organizing with UncommonGoods

Organizing with House Plants and UncommonGoods

This post is sponsored by UncommonGoods.  All opinions are completely, 100% mine.

We are in a season of decluttering and organizing. Not quite Mari Kondo level (who has the time?), but when I have a spare five, ten, or fifteen minutes I clean out a drawer. Phoenix empties all of the drawers he has access too. Seeing the contents strewn about continually reminds me to edit, edit, edit.

As you might know, Jordan and I bought our first house last November.  While this won’t be our forever home, we have been selective in our furniture choices. This is why we only recently bought a chair for our living room and Phoenix doesn’t have a dresser. Oh, how I wish we would have saved our money and limited the Ikea impulse purchases of our youth! I don’t know about you, but I was always far too optimistic that a piece of furniture would fit in any apartment we’d move to.

Ladies Who Lunch (In Style)

Copper Threads Blue Stripped Dress

My first professional job, outside of college, had a black and white dress code. I could wear colorful accessories, but very quickly my closet became a sea of black. The limited options made getting dressed in the mornings simple, but when choosing pieces to purchase, I didn’t spend time thinking about fit or cut or style in general. The only question I asked myself was, “does this come in black?”

When I moved on from that job, I wanted to own the rainbow.

A Striped Dress Obsession

I have this new-found obsession with finding small clothing boutiques on Instagram. It all started when I was putting away my winter sweaters and realizing I would like a few more non-tee-shirt options for summer. Instagram has a lovely feature, where when you follow someone they offer similar suggestions. This led me down my boutique rabbit trail, which led me to my new favorite dress!

Refresh with VIIcode Oxygen Eye Masks

Product Review VIIcode O2M Oxygen Eye Pad

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of VIIcode. The opinions are mine own.

My mother once told me you will latch on to a particular age and mentally cling to it. For her, the age was 37. As the baby in my family, I’ve been the one to age up. I haven’t had to witness younger siblings go through milestones I felt like I just went through. Jordan is the oldest, so I am experiencing this with his siblings.

But, back to aging.

I thought turning 30 would be more traumatic for me. 30 sounds finite, no? Now that I am 30, I feel great! Despite the loss of my ab muscles, I’m in better shape since having Phoenix. My age only emerges when I discuss cultural references with my co-workers.

“Who’s Dashboard Confessional?”

“Mulan is a classic Disney movie.”

My main area of focus right now is skin care.

Little Style | Freshly Picked Moccasins

Freshly Picked Moccasins

Phoenix is SO close to walking. He pulls up on anything and everything in sight. Other parents have told me the reason he has zero fear or hesitancy, in regards to standing, is because he is so young. He doesn’t even consider he might be pulling up on something unsteady! I didn’t expect to have such an early mover. It’s amazing to witness how determined he is to learn this skill.

Park weather is nearly here to stay, which means Phoenix needed his first pair of shoes!

Sunny walks with PinkBlush Maternity

Phoenix has gone back to fighting naps almost everyday since learning to sit up over a month ago. It’s been an exhausting, albeit fun, month! No one fully told me how many developmental changes a baby goes through during their first year. As soon as we master a “schedule” Phoenix goes and learns something new. I think Phoenix is a little on the early side for rolling, sitting-up and crawling. I have a feeling he’ll be walking before he’s 10 months old.

He surprises me everyday. I just love being his mama.
