Veni, vidi, vici.
Jordan and I traipsed all over New York City with our 14 month old and lived to tell the tale! Seriously. In the coming weeks I’ll share more about our trip, especially what I learned about traveling with a toddler. Lessons such as: unless you go on large family vacations with reinforcement, vacationing with a toddler in toe isn’t relaxing. But, remember, everyday with a toddler is exhausting so why not go somewhere fun!
Would I label NYC family friendly? Probably not, but everyone was so helpful. Offering up their seats on the subway or lending a hand when we had suitcases and a stroller. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and my prediction that Phoenix would love the airplane was correct!
Do you have a specific question you want me to answer about our time in New York City?
Jordan and I are glad to be home though I do miss the little cafe below our AirBnB in Harlem — we practically became locals. Once Phoenix was asleep Jordan would go downstairs and order dinner for us. Our days started there with croissants and lattes!
Onto the links!
Five Movies for Style Inspiration | I love the way Lauren took inspiration from movies and transformed their iconic style into modern looks. I’m on the hunt for a pair of high-waisted slouchy trousers ala Annie Hall. I think these from (affiliate link) Everlane might be perfect.
Herringbone Painted Pumpkins | I see myself recreating this twist on the classic painted jack-o-latern while Phoenix attempts his first modern painted pumpkin. Maybe next year though. Phoenix was a little spooked by the large pumpkins at Terhune Orchard!
Texture Mixing is the New Pattern Mixing | Betsy is the Queen of second-hand shopping. This outfit gives me muted Clueless vibes. Are Berets coming back? Do you see them around where you live?
A Cheesy Butternut Squash Casserole | Maybe because I grew up in the midwest in the 90s, but I can appreciate a warm casserole in the cooler months. Casseroles certainly aren’t light fare, but they are comforting and a great thing to bring to a friend in need.
Made with Melanin | My friend Abby started a podcast with her friend, Michael, and the story of one of Phoenix’s favorite knitted blankets appears on a recent episode. 😉 I recommend listening to the episode where they interview their mothers about cooking and how that shaped their own food culture.
Happy Weekend, all!
