Weekend Links / / Family Trip

It’s Wednesday night and I’m currently sitting on the bed in a dark hotel room. Phoenix is snoozing away in his pack n’play and Jordan is out finding ice cream. It’s been a long day! We left for Jordan’s grandparent’s house this morning at 4:45. The car doesn’t soothe Phoenix, so we’re still finding the optimal time to leave. Phoenix fell back a sleep for a little bit, but he still fussed the majority of the trip. Thankfully, he bounces back once he’s out and about!

As you are reading this (on Saturday) I am peacefully watching Wimbledon at my parent’s house. We left Jordan’s grandparent’s house Wednesday night and drove to Davenport, IA where we saw my grandpa and two uncles. Phoenix had a terrible nights sleep Thursday night. He was up for 90 minutes in the middle of the night completely restless. It was rough, but the goal was to see all the grandparents not necessarily to get a good nights sleep!

We are staying put for a few days — celebrating Jordan’s youngest sister who graduated high school and Phoenix’s first birthday!

Onto the links!

Fresh Black Bean Salad | I want to run out and purchase a big bag of tortilla chips to eat with this salad!

White Pizza with Parsley Pesto | We haven’t eaten homemade pizza in a while, so when we get back from Illinois this meal is going on our meal plan! An arugula salad sounds lovely as the added green.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale | I’m already bogged down by the influx of blog posts about Nordstrom’s anniversary sale, which seems to happen every other month. BUT, I wanted to mention a tip from a fellow experienced boy mama friend of mine. Buy shoes at Nordstrom!

If the shoe wears out before your child grows out of OR if your kid grows out of the shoe before the shoe is worn out you can return it. Basically, you get your money’s worth. I plan on sticking with two pairs of shoe per season — casual and slightly dressy — so they need to be quality. These classic Adidas, hi-tops, and Freshly Picked moccasins are going on my wishlist! I don’t have a Nordstrom credit car so hopefully a few of these will still be available when the sale goes live to the public.

HAIM — Something to Tell You | HAIM finally released their long-awaited second album and it’s perfect.

Summer 10 x 10 Challenge | Caroline and Lee are hosting a summer style challenge. Ten simple pieces (clothes and shoes) styled into ten different looks. They are halfway through and I’m contemplating doing my own challenge in the fall. My favorite part of their challenge is they breakdown what activities they are doing and therefore why a particular outfit works.

This outfit and this outfit are my favorites.

Happy Weekend, all!

  1. I am totally overwhelmed by the number of Nordstrom sale posts I see out there – I don’t actually read any of them even on my favorite blogs, as it’s just too much. But that’s a great tip on shoes – I have seen deals on tiny TOMS from them too, which I also love for Hendrik. The 1 casual + 1 dressier shoe per season is a great idea. I’ve ended up with that kind of by default because I usually like to have something of decent quality (so it costs a bit more) but also there just aren’t as many options for boys out there. Girls have all kinds of sandals, flats, sneakers, etc. but boys are a bit more limited in choices, so that makes it easy to keep the collection very reasonable 🙂

    1. That’s very true. Right not Phoenix has two moccasins — he didn’t even have shoes until he was 8 months and they still fit him. But he’s starting to outgrow them so I knew the time was coming!
