The Five Minute, Five Makeup Product Face

I decided early on in my pregnancy, for the sake of my sanity, I would shower everyday. When Phoenix was a newborn, I’d strap him into the Snugapuppy bouncer or Rock ‘n Play sleeper and bring him into the bathroom with me. Now, since Phoenix has a semi-consistent schedule, I either shower during his morning nap or while he is playing in his room.

Coffee and a morning shower set me up for success.

To fully utilize naptime, the rest of my morning routine is fairly simple. Most days I air dry my hair and unless Jordan is joining us for a family outing, you’ll find me in jeans and a t-shirt.

Here are the five products I am using everyday to create a simple makeup look.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer | This concealer is thick and it took me a few tries to figure out the best way to apply. If I use a heavy hand, it will crease under my eyes. A little goes a long way! It works best to first rub the product slightly between your fingers to warm it up.

Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation | My skin evened out considerably while I was pregnant, but I still have lingering acne scars. Otherwise, I wouldn’t wear foundation everyday. I usually opt for a liquid foundation, but I wanted to try something new. A light spritz of rosewater, after I finish my makeup, adds moisture back in and counteracts a potential powdery look.

NYX Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil | I really don’t know how to properly fill in my eyebrows, but I have come to realize a little definition helps anchor the face. Especially, when you wear glasses! Have any of you received a brow consultation at the Benefit counter at Ulta? I’m considering it!

MAC Eyeshadow (used as blush) | Being a good steward of the products and items I purchase is important to me. Even when I don’t absolutely love something, I attempt to use every last ounce (or return if I can). I used to wear a lot of eyeshadow. I don’t anymore, but I hate the idea of throwing them away. Instead of purchasing a replacement blush, I am repurposing a pink eyeshadow.

YSL The Shock Volumizing Mascara | I’m constantly on the hunt for the perfect mascara. One that thickens and defines my straight blonde lashes. I received this mascara complimentary from Influenster but I had zero expectations. I was really impressed with the gel-like formula. It beats my previous favorite high-end mascara, Benefit’s BADgal Lash.

Have you used any of these makeup products?

  1. I’ve heard great things about the IT Cosmetics concealer. I am currently using Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer and it’s amazing. I have been to Ulta and gotten my brows done there. I loved it! My brows look great now. I go about every five weeks.

  2. I love seeing these everyday, real-life makeup routines. I’m so clueless with makeup that when I see the “5-minute face” sorts of things in magazines I wonder what the heck else I could do to my face to make it take that long. I think my routine is about 2 minutes. I would like to up my game a bit though, finding a balance between using products that will enhance my natural look and realizing that there are just certain things I’m never going to do, like use a lip liner. Or eyeliner for that matter.

p.s. I appreciate this “shower every day” mantra. I know things can get crazy with motherhood, and to each her own of course, but it drives me a little nuts when people use “I haven’t showered in 3 days” as some sort of badge of success. It’s good to prioritize this for yourself and set yourself up for success!

    1. I agree with your p.s. statement. If I’m not washing my hair I can literally take a shower in a minute. Phoenix has certainly cried his way through but on the days when I really was getting zero sleep my shower made all of the difference.

  3. Have you tried any of the Beautycounter products? They are fantastic! They offer a “flawless in five” set and it’s all a mama needs to get herself ready in the morning. All of their products are non-toxic and free of over 1,500 toxic ingredients. I’m in love with their products!
