Weekend Links / / The Dissolve

While some of you are mourning Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce, I’m mourning The Great British Bake Off’s dissolve. Obviously, I’ll watch the incumbent seasons but it won’t be the same without Mary Berry!

How was everyone’s week? Phoenix turned eight-weeks old on Wednesday, which completely baffles me. These last two weeks have been hard. Phoenix is engaged as ever, while also fussing a lot. I know this is developmentally normal for his age, but it’s not easy seeing your baby upset.

Jordan and I have a fun weekend ahead. Tonight, the three of us are attending a friend’s wedding, but tomorrow we’re leaving Phoenix behind for the Kanye West concert! I’m rather nervous to leave him, but I know he (okay, mostly me) will do just fine.

Onto the links!

Chicken Divan + Meal Ruts | Not only does this post include Bridget’s chicken divan recipe, it also suggests an interesting concept. Meal ruts. The handful of meals you resort to when time or motivation is lacking. Chili is one of my fall/winter meal ruts. What do you consider your meal rut meals?

How to Pick a Color Palette That Will Pull Your Home Together | Right before our wedding, Jordan and I spent an afternoon in Ikea furnishing our apartment. We never talked about a home aesthetic or color palette and in the end our first few apartments lacked personality.

Seasons Come and Seasons Go | “It’s just a season, and I want to enjoy and embrace it while it lasts.”

This is the kind of reminder we all need.

The Art of a Hand Written Note | I desire to be the kind of person who sends birthday and thank you cards on time every time. In reality, I’m never prepared so the cards get sent out late. (I have until Phoenix turns one to send out his thank you cards, right?) One of Kendi’s tips is to pre-label birthday cards (re:family) at the beginning of the year. Genius!

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte | I love all things pumpkin except for pumpkin spice lattes. If the PSL is your thing this homemade version looks simple and healthier! Side note: Next time you are at Starbucks order a pumpkin chai tea latte. Those are delicious!

Happy Weekend, all!

  1. I’ve been in a meal rut but life changes have me hopeful that we’ll do better in the coming weeks. I made my first fall batch of chili this past week and I’m so glad it has cooled down to enjoy it again!

  2. Great links! I am sad about Mary Berry as well….so upset… 🙁
I will be working a lot this weekend – retail and church jobs. It’s not the best way to spend the weekend but at least I’ll be able to pay my bills! Have a great weekend!

  3. Welp, having lived in the Philippines all my life, I didn’t experience fall and PSLs until this month. I’ve tried the iced PSL last week (iced because the weather’s still kind of warm in San Diego). Definitely trying the chai version next time.

Thanks for introducing me to revisionarylife.com. I’m an instant fan.

  4. Having a huge stack of cards (thank you, birthday, etc) is the perfect way to always have one on hand. That way when I check the calendar and an event is coming up, I can reach into my box of cards and pull out the perfect one! This requires one or two very expensive trips to Hallmark a year though 🙂

  5. Chicken divan is my absolute go-to meal when I’m out of ideas. It is so yummy on top of puff pastries, and I also use it as the base for homemade chicken pot pie. Sounds like you all had an awesome weekend! My parents visited, so mine was pretty great as well 🙂

  6. I am very sad about Mary Berry departing the show. Do you watch “A Chef’s Life” with Vivian Howard? She has twins and it’s a great family show. I also value a hand written note.
