In 2009, Jordan and I spent a week in Southern California. Besides our time at Disneyland (because obviously, Disney!), our day in Laguna Beach was my absolute favorite. Oh Laguna Beach, how I’ve dreamed of returning to you ever since!
It is the perfect combination of beach and small town. There are local clothing and home boutiques and plenty of restaurants all within an easy walk from the beach. You can park in once place and explore a multitude of locations. If you haven’t been to Laguna Beach you are missing out.
We just so happened to have Nashville friends in California at the same time and Laguna Beach came up as the perfect place to spend a day together. The first order of business was breakfast. We met Ryan, Jenna and their friend at Active Culture, where I tried my first açaí bowl! I understand the obsession and luckily for me Franklin Juice Co. opened a location right by our house and their açaí bowls are delicious.
The last time Jordan and I were in Laguna Beach we went to Main Beach right downtown where there are playgrounds, volleyball nets and easy access to restaurants and bathrooms. It’s more touristy but still a comfortable option. This time (per our friend’s knowledge) we went to a smaller, more intimate location: Thousand Steps Beach. There aren’t 1,000 steps, but there are a lot of steps! I don’t recommend bringing small children, as making quick trips to the car is practically impossible with all the steps.
Ryan is a photographer and videographer in Nashville, so of course the boys went off and enjoyed a photoshoot. Jenna and I shared pregnancy stories (she’s about 10 weeks behind me) while walking the shoreline. We even had a whale sighting!
A funny story about the whale sighting: As Jenna and I were strolling up the beach, were stopped by an older man and his grandson to let us know he had just seen a whale. He lives in Laguna Beach and told us if you see two boats traveling close together, most likely they are following a whale. Great tip! His grandson (around age five) springs up to me, our toes almost touching and starts rubbing my 27-week belly. HAHA.
Eventually, our morning snack wore off and we all decided it was time to pack up and find somewhere to eat dinner. Everyone was in the mood for Mexican food. The restaurant wasn’t anything special, though it still hit the spot. I even enjoyed a virgin margarita!
