Weekend Links / / Birthday Anticipation

We Create Better Together

What are your plans for Labor Day weekend? As someone who works retail, long weekends generally aren’t relevant to my life. This particular holiday weekend I have off because our birthday is on Monday! Tonight, we’re loading up in Lauren’s minivan to take a big trip to Costco for party supplies. What it is about Costco that is so exciting? I’m like a kid in a candy store when I tag along with my friends who have memberships.

The rest of the weekend will be spent with family and friends. I am so excited to celebrate Jordan!

Jordan is curating a playlist for our party on Sunday, which you can listen to here!

Onto the links!

/ / My August Book Club Picks. Marla’s book reviews are excellent. I enjoy reading, but I rarely know where to turn for material inspiration. I particularly appreciate her inclusions of fiction and non fiction books.

/ / Where I’m At Mentally Right Now. Tay is a comedian, writer and blogger living in Chicago. I find her musings on blogging, life in Chicago and the comedy scene hilarious. I appreciate her honesty and humor even among the hard moments.

“And then when the instructor announced we were done I damn near collapsed on my stomach, amazed I had done it, and I looked around the room expecting to see everyone else as moved by this spiritual, physical and mental journey we had all just been on for two minutes, but much to my surprise, no one was.”

/ / Not An Artist. Occasionally I read a post where I think to myself, “Is she reading my mind?” The way comparison stifled Monica’s confidence in calling herself an artist really resonated with me. More often than I’d like to admit, I enter situations downplaying my abilities so I can potentially avoid disappointing myself and others. I get in my own way.

/ / 15 Things I’ll Stop Doing in my 30s. On the eve of my 29th birthday, I’m declaring it’s okay I still don’t really know how to remove a stain or iron my clothes or that sometimes I eat dessert for breakfast.

/ / How Our Camera got Lifted by Lyft. This story from Esther and Jacob literally made my skin crawl. Always double-check you have your belongings when leaving a taxi, Uber or Lyft. Jordan and I have a funny saying anytime we leave our surroundings, “Keys, phone, wallet.” Jordan has the tendency to leave things behind, but thankfully in places where we can easily return to (parents house, church etc). This mantra comes in handy when we are traveling.

Happy Weekend, all!

  1. Thanks for sharing! Wishing you a very happy birthday! My bday is Tuesday. I had two incidents with Lyft drivers. I’m sticking with Uber now. Have a fabulous weekend!

  2. Thank you for sharing Monica’s post! I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, the difference between being creative and being artistic. I recently started reading Creative Confidence in hopes of cultivating my own creativity. Happy birthday to you and Jordan! Hope you have a super fun Costco trip (seriously, it really is exciting — they have the BEST cake) and an even better celebration!

  3. okay, see that saying would have been super helpful if we did that before we left our lyft! haha we definitely need to do something like that! for now, i’m constantly paranoid i’m leaving something behind, so i double, triple check! thanks so much for sharing our post. 🙂

  4. Oh my goodness, I downplay myself ALL THE TIME (in pretty much all things). I really need to change this attitude because if God blesses us with children one day, I don’t want them stifling their own creative spirits because of the habits and attitude they see in me. Thanks for the share! 🙂
