Before we get into this outfit, I have to give a shout out to Megan. Earlier this month, she did a round-up of 14 Fashion Finds for Fall. One of the pieces mentioned was an a-line suede skirt. I commented about my excitement for a-line skirts coming back in vogue, but was looking for an a-line denim skirt with front buttons.

Well, she went a searching, sent me a link and voilà! I have a new denim skirt! Blogging buddies are the best.

The trends to come from NYC’s Fall Fashion Week hint the 70s are making a comeback: bell bottom/flare jeans, bright prints, fringe, culottes and a-line hems. The 1970s, as far as fashion goes, have never inspired me. I’m not the biggest fan of bell bottoms or loud prints (I’m open to a big wide leg trouser). BUT I do enjoy a classic a-line hem.

I am still enjoying the resurgence of the 1990s train, so for this look, the two decades have merged. I channeled Rachel from Friends while styling this outfit. I imagined she would have found this skirt at a thrift store in the Village and mixed and matched it with existing pieces in her closet.

What style trends are you excited about for fall? I would like to find a plaid blanket scarf!

^ Often, when doing these fashion posts, Jordan takes my photo without my glasses as they can cause glare. But during the week, I usually wear my Edgeworth by Warby Parker glasses. I love them so much!

^ I found these booties on super clearance at a boutique in Nashville. They might be the most comfortable pair of shoes I own!

^ I purchased my J.Crew jacket right before heading to Europe and nearly three years later, it is still in perfect condition. Buying investment pieces does pay off in the end.

  1. Yay!! Catherine, I’m so pumped that skirt worked out for you, it looks GREAT! Very Rachel Green in a good way 😉 PS I just did an all plaid post and had a blanket scarf in the mix, maybe that’s your next purchase? haha Seriously though, so glad it helped!! 🙂

  2. Such a cute skirt! 🙂 I’m looking forward to the opportunity to wear scarves of any kind when it finally gets cool enough around here. It’s still in the mid-90’s so they’re a no-go.

  3. I’m actually really excited for ponchos. I never thought I’d say that, but I found a really awesome one from Old Navy the other day and I’m growing impatient waiting for it (along with a whole haul of items) to arrive at my door! I’m excited for wider trousers and flares and I’m definitely not afraid of print!

  4. What a fun skirt! Love how the buttons give it a little something extra, so that it makes an adorable outfit with just a white tee. Adding the field jacket gets an extra thumbs up for sure – what doesn’t that look cute with?

I love a-lines too but am kind of scared of flares… though after this many years of skinny jeans maybe it would be fun to try a different silhouette again. Plaid scarves are right up my alley though!

    1. I’m with you on flares. I never liked them or boot cut really when they were the only option in high school. I stuck with more straight leg, but I also was hesitant on skinny jeans. I suppose that means I don’t really know until I try! Haha.

  5. I have a skirt like that! I haven’t even worn it yet though! I bought it with such high hopes but never got around to figuring out to wear with it. Now the ideas are pumping! haha
