Summertime Essentials + A Giveaway

Even though autumn is about a month away, I don’t feel like our summer weather is ending anytime soon. That is one perk about living a little further south! I am careful about sun exposure, especially during the summer months, but I enjoy the endless possibilities summer brings to my day: early morning walks for coffee before the sun gets too hot, afternoon dips in the pool and backyard parties that reach late into the night. It’s the best.

Because our summer days have been full, I try to leave the house fully equipped. On Saturday alone, Jordan and I worked in the morning, spent a few hours in a friend’s pool that afternoon and in the evening we went to two birthday gatherings! My tote bags have gotten a lot of use lately. 😉

I’m teaming with Summer and several other bloggers to give one lucky winner a bag full of our summertime essentials!

What are your summertime essentials? Here are mine:

Bathing Suit | More of our friends have pools here than in Illinois. It’s nice to feel confident and comfortable when invited to pool parties. I realized my bikini bottoms of three years were actually ripping on the side shortly after moving to Nashville last year! Talk about embarrassing!

Cover-Up | Choosing a cover up is almost as important as selecting a bathing suit. I personally like to wear one that doubles as a dress.

Simple Make Up | Concealerbronzer and sunscreen are all I need on super hot days.

Water Bottle | Keep hydrated, kids!

Saltwater Sandals | I probably sound like a broken record, but I can’t stop recommending Saltwater sandals for you and your kids!

  1. Oh I love summer, and although summer’s with kids are fun, it always makes me miss the days before kids…when I could grab my towel and a book and head to the beach and read for hours. Or go to the pool and just lay in the sun. But I do love watching my kids play in the waves, eat sand :), and practicing tricks in the pool. My #1 summer essential is my homemade sunscreen with essential oils. It’s our fave.

  2. Sunglasses are always a must for me in the summertime because the sun is so dang bright where I live. I bought a new bathing suit top at the beginning of the summer, but still haven’t had the chance to use it. I can’t believe summer is fast approaching its end! 🙁

    1. I really need to purchase a pair of prescription sunglasses. As I’ve gotten older I have a hard time wearing my contacts for long stretches of time. I should be wearing sunglasses more often though!

  3. I don’t think I could live without watermelon, a summer novel, iced tea and Sanuk sandals. They’re squishy and made from yoga mats and SO. COMFY.

    1. Whenever I meet someone who doesn’t like watermelon I feel bad for them. It’s so delicious. I’ve never heard of Sanuk sandals but they sound extremely comfortable.

  4. I feel like summer is when I go super light on the makeup so that it’s not too heavy on my face. But my essential is definitely a good tiny bookbag (like a Vera Bradley). I love to walk everywhere in the summer. It’s great exercise and I love being outside, so having a small bookbag to throw everything in while I walk is a must!

    1. Yes, totally! I used to decorate my own tote bags in high school and within the last year have reacquainted myself with them again. They are washable, durable and can be used for anything.

    1. I’m not completely satisfied with my moisturizer at the moment, but I’ve been trying to be better about completely letting it dry before applying any sort of base. I think it helps keep the oil at bay throughout the day.
