When I first bought this dress, I thought the stripes were black and white. Haha. After a closer look and several wears, I realized it was an extra dark navy and white! Either way I love a stripped dress. I own three, all with varying lengths and styles: a maxi, sleeveless and this short-sleeved shift.

I’ve realized, after taking inventory of my closet and style aesthetic, patterns only work for me in small doses and pants are actually my favorite way to wear prints (here & here). The versatility of stripes and solids are unbeatable and when working with a carefully curated wardrobe. The ability to mix and match with different shoes and outerwear is beneficial.

I played into the sporty feel of this shift dress by pairing it with my Converse Chuck Taylors. Speaking of sporty, have you been watching Wimbledon? I love tennis and it’s in moments like these that I miss cable. Does anyone else feel as though it’s a bit of a conspiracy? Networks air reruns and yet the matches are on ESPN. I’ve only been able to watch a few matches here and there on the internet!

And how about the Women’s World Cup final? Playing soccer, in gym or at summer camp, always gave me a bit of anxiety growing up, but watching it is another story. Jordan and I intended on working while casually watching, but we kept getting pulled back into the excitement!

  1. I was just having a conversation with a friend about horizontal stripes yesterday… I think I need to get over my aversion because really the are so cute. I did purchase some polka dot denim shorts though… babysteps.

    1. You know, I didn’t even pay attention to the fact that these were horizontal when I initially bought it. Cut and fit is more important but if I had a larger chest I think I’d be more hesitant.

  2. So cute! I love the button details at the top, and your Converse are the perfect touch. I’m wearing a remarkably similar dress today, and when I bought it, I also thought it was black and white.

  3. I am in love with this dress!! I really enjoy simple but bold looks. The strips are perfect and the color is great following our 4th of July weekend. Oh and love it with shoes. Perfection!

  4. Oh man, stripes are my weakness. I love the placket detail on this one! It’s a good thing I never ran into that one at my Gap or it would probably be hanging in my closet too. Ha!
