Weekend Links / / Sun-Screened Friends

Jordan and I intentionally kept our nights low-key this week. May was a really busy month for us and we needed to wind down a bit. Speaking of being intentional, on Wednesday night, we unintentionally finished the entire series of Friends. Generally, each season is composed of 24 episodes, so when I hit play on episode 18 I didn’t think it was going to be the end. I might have teared up during that last scene. If there is a better sitcom, I can’t think of one.

This week I tried my best to catch up on a few projects, clean up my inbox and actually read a magazine or two — lofty goals! Haha. Generally, after I get home from work and wash the stale coffee off my body and hair, I find it hard to just relax. Whether it be blog projects, Jordan’s business, or general housekeeping there is always more to do! I need to get better at shutting the computer down, especially now that summer is here.

And now for some weekend reads!

/ / Brittany and her husband just bought their first home and are expecting their first child. A lot of fun new changes for them! Several months back, Brittany shared their desire to maintain a minimalists perspective while house hunting. This week she gave an update on the desires they had for their first home vs. what they ended up buying. I’m quite thankful that Jordan and I have been forced to downsize even more in our current place. It’s made me aware of how little one really needs, though double sinks in our bathroom would be nice!

/ / Jordan and I subscribe to Relevant Magazine, but I also enjoy reading the articles published on their website. Wedding season is upon us and whether you are single, engaged, or married for 2 months or 15 years, there are a lot of great points brought up in this article, The 10 Things I Learned in 10 Years of Marriage.

“We are in this marriage for a lifetime, so we can either choose to be joyful or to be miserable.”

/ / 13 Natural Sunscreens to try. I’m on the hunt for a good face sunscreen that won’t cause a breakout. What is your favorite facial sunscreen?

/ / I bought the biggest bag of spinach at Costco this week. Costco is like an adult playground with endless imaginary possibilities. Oh, the trouble I’d get into if I had a deep freezer and a huge pantry. I’d buy all the things. Besides smoothies, Monique’s strawberry mango chopped spinach salad sounds like the perfect way to use some of my fresh produce.

/ / Jordan and I can’t stop listening to Brandon Flowers’ latest album. Have you listened yet? It’s so good!

Happy Weekend, all!

  1. I am in store for cruelty free sunscreen. Normally I use regular spf 50 baby sunscreen but it’s so thick and greasy and it doesn’t make my face feel good. I always feel like my face is covered in mayo.

    Have a great weekend 🙂

  2. Isn’t Friends incredible?! I just finished the series (twice.. I know, I have no life) and cried during that last scene! Such a great series.

Love your blog, by the way! I’ll be back 🙂

  3. I enjoy the Relevant Podcast. I need to subscribe to the magazine. Thanks for the tip! I like Osmosis UV Neutralizer-No Tan Frequency. It is harmonized water. I have used Shade by Osmosis on my face but it is expensive. It does work and no breakouts. EWG has a lot of good information about the ingredients in sun screen products. I just purchased Pratima Neem Rose Face Sunscreen SPF30. I will let you know if I like it. Have a fabulous weekend.

  4. I need to start watching Friends on Netflix. I remember watching sporadic episodes after school growing up, but I wonder what it’s like to watch them consecutively and see how all the storylines add up.

    1. I was the same way. I watched it a lot on syndication and even watched the finale live, but I didn’t exactly know when the story lines happened. It really lives up and I enjoyed it even more now that I can relate!

  5. “We are in this marriage for a lifetime, so we can either choose to be joyful or to be miserable.” YES. This is so good. I actually think about this all the time, and what an active role we play in the success, well-being, and general happiness of our marriages. Can’t wait to read more from that article. Thanks for sharing my post, girl! I’m a little nervous about the “upsizing” that comes with buying a house — I loved apartment living because it made me keep things simple. Hoping the minimal storage in this house will help me stay on track!

  6. There is just nothing like Friends. I can quote nearly every stinking episode I’ve seen it so much lol.
That salad looks amaaaaazing!! I love salads with a bit of fruit and dressings that are sweet/tart! Add a little toasted pecans and you’ve hit all the best things for a salad 🙂

  7. Nice! I’m working on a post about natural beauty products right now! Here’s a tip – try the product guides at Environmental Working Group to find out what’s safe. The address is ewg.org/skindeep/

  8. I’m probably the only person that hasn’t watched all of Friends!

I love getting spinach at Costco! Whatever I don’t use in salads, I freeze…. then you can just throw the frozen leaves in a smoothie!

  9. I’m going to be so sad when I get to the end of watching Friends again. It’s not like I haven’t seen them all before, but there’s something so wonderful about watching them all in order again.

  10. thanks so much for sharing our sunscreen post! 🙂 Let me know if you end up trying any of the sunscreens. I think out of all the face ones, I liked the badger rose one. Also, I don’t think any sitcom can replace friends.. they pretty much cover everything! For a quick second, I thought How I Met Your Mother could bc they have the same feel with having that tight knit group of friends… but I think after finding out the ending.. I don’t really care to watch it again… whereas friends I can watch anytime!

    1. Thank you for the tip and I completely agree about HIMYM. The first few seasons were so good and I enjoyed the antics even in the later seasons but I didn’t feel quite the same connection.
