To Remember

^ My mom’s dad 22, left (stationed in the Philippines) and my dad’s dad 22, right (a doctor stationed in the states).

Did you know that Memorial Day was once called Decoration Day? Regardless of the name, it’s important to remember that today isn’t just a bank holiday or a day for backyard parties with friends, it’s a day to remember the many men and women who have served valiantly and those who gave their lives serving our country.

Both my grandfathers and my mother-in-law’s father served in WWII (my mom’s dad is still alive; Jordan’s other grandpa served in the Navy during the Korean War) and while they all survived the War, they could easily have not. I am so humbled by their service. Thank you to all who have served and who are serving.

  1. I just love those photos! I have some pretty cool ones of my Grandfather working on planes during WWII that he sent home to my Grandma. It’s pretty weird to see pictures of your grandparents when they were younger than you and imagine all that they have gone through. That generation was very tough!

    1. It is hard to reconcile that they were ever that young! My grandparents married after the war (at the old age of 24! haha) but it’s so cool you have their correspondence.
