If I was asked to pick a favorite outfit right now, it might have to be a block-color day dress paired with a denim jacket. I love wearing dresses, but I don’t want to worry about flashing an unsuspecting passer-by while sitting or bending over. Enter the midi dress.

I first heard about Sonnet James on Naomi’s blog, Love Taza. Several other bloggers I follow were also wearing them, so I went to investigate. Sonnet James markets their clothes as play dresses for the modern mom, but I like to think they are play dresses for every woman! The stitching is sturdy, the fabric holds its shape well; this is the kind of dress that bends and moves with you.

While the price tag is certainly more expensive than going to Forever 21 or Gap, the quality is far superior. This dress will continue to play a major role in my closet for years to come!

^ This hope necklace was a birthday gift from my best friend, Lauren. I’ve needed a reminder to continue to hope during this season of infertility.

  1. I have an almost identical look planned with my SJ dress. 🙂 I love this one–the baseball sleeves are such a good touch! I also love the length on you–how tall are you?? Happy Hump Day, friend!

    1. I’m excited to see how you style yours. I love this dress so much. I would like a shorter sleeve one because it does get a little hot in the summer. I’m 5’5 so it does hit me a little lower on my legs.

  2. I love this look. The dress is so chic paired with the booties, and the denim jacket is the perfect finishing piece. You look amazing!

  3. Hey Cat,
I’ve been looking at Sonnet James dresses, looking to add one to my summer staples….do you think they could be hemmed (since I’m vertically challenged) and not take away from the overall structure/appearance of the dress? Thanks for doing a post on them, I’ve been researching them and wanting to pull the trigger on one but wanted to see how they fit and all.

  4. This outfit looks great on you! I love dresses that are cute AND comfortable. Midi is not my length though, it’s just not flattering on my leg shape. Slightly hemmed would be perfect!
    Ps those booties are great!

  5. Really cute! I usually go for skirts and dresses a few inches below the knee–I find them way more convenient than floor-length when I have to pick up my skirt and make sure it doesn’t touch the ground!
I really like your denim jacket!

  6. I’ve been seeing some of these dresses on Instagram – so great! And it looks fabulous on you. Such a great mix of polished but a little sporty. And any dress that can be worn with a denim jacket is a winner for me.
