A New Day

I really can’t thank you all enough for the words of encouragement expressed to Jordan and I after sharing our baby journey. I’ve felt the community and the burden was lightened because of your honesty last weekend.

Entering 2013, I anticipated a little more nesting and a little less traveling. Early on in the year, we both agreed to make the most of our extra time together as a twosome. Our vacation to England and France was a blast but we also began exploring closer to home. We grew to love to our weekly excursion days, playing tennis often, and the enjoyment of trying new experiences. We were hoping for an easy transition into winter, but the cold and snow came in quick! And there are only so many seasons of Felicity to marathon before even the best of us acquire cabin fever.

Chicago was hit with a polar vortex last week, but right before the weather took a nosedive, we had one day in the 40s and Jordan and I took full advantage to get outside!

We started our day by seeing an early viewing of Her, which landed on my list of favorite movies I saw in 2013 (though I didn’t rank them, Her is in my top three). The rest of the afternoon was spent eating pizza at Lou Malnati’s (our first time), viewing art exhibits at Rotofugi Gallery (Cult of Chauncy and At the Hour of Sleep), browsing used books at Powell’s Used Books (I’m on the hunt for a copy of Wuthering Heights), and drinking coffee at Heritage Bicycles and General Store.

When you visit a cafe where they simultaneously brew coffee and build custom bikes, like Heritage Bicycles, you must document the place. The mechanic kindly let me take a couple of shots. Speaking of photography, usually I’m shy about taking public photos because I’m not sure that I’m doing it right. Jordan has been encouraging me and slowly but surely I’m getting more comfortable.

2013 confirmed the truth that all good things take work and energy and might not appear with the snap of a finger. So, here’s to tackling some of those fears in 2014!

^ Rotofugi is on the ground floor of this building from 1886! I love the industrial feel of this architecture.

^ Purchasing a new bike has been on my want list for awhile now, so I’m dreaming big, particularly about a custom turquoise one. 🙂

Days like these remind me of wondering random streets in Paris; no real agenda, but everywhere you turn something exciting is to be found. This world is too beautiful to not explore it fully.
